Family Reading Journey
Our family reads together every day. Not to compete — but to grow. I built a platform that makes shared reading a family adventure.
Family reading growth platform with reading journey tracks, radar analytics, AI coach, book reviews, reading letters, and cooperative achievement badges — powered by Supabase realtime.
The Backstory
Our family has always loved reading — but everyone reads at their own pace, in their own corner. I wanted to turn that into something shared: not a competition, but a journey we take together. A place where we track our reading, cheer each other on, share thoughts about books, and even write letters to each other about what we’ve read.
This started as a simple reading tracker — but after consulting with psychologists, education experts, and UX researchers, it evolved into something much deeper: a cooperative family reading ecosystem designed to nurture healthy habits without the stress of competition.
Key Features
- Reading Journey Dashboard — Visual progress tracks for each family member showing monthly reading pace, with cooperative (non-competitive) presentation
- Reading Radar Analysis — 4-dimension SVG radar chart per person measuring Volume, Quality, Sharing, and Diversity of reading
- AI Reading Coach “Chaekbeot” — AI-powered coach (Fireworks deepseek-v3p1) that understands your family context and provides personalized reading strategies, book recommendations, and weekly missions
- Book Reviews & Recommendations — Share thoughts with star ratings, recommend books to family, and browse a cross-family community board
- Reading Letters — Send heartfelt letters about books to family members, building emotional connection through reading
- Daily Highlight Quotes — Record memorable passages from books and build a family collection of “명문장” (beautiful sentences)
- Cooperative Achievement System — Family tree that grows from seed to mighty tree as you read together (15 badges including streaks, milestones, and collaborative goals)
- Cross-Family Community — See what other families are reading, discover books through community reviews, and compare reading patterns
- Accessibility — Font size toggle (Normal/Large/XL), minimum 12px fonts throughout, responsive design
- Supabase Realtime — Live updates with Google OAuth, family creation/invitation system, and row-level security
Design Philosophy
After a simulated expert panel (psychologists, reading specialists, UX designers, gamification experts, and family users), we made deliberate choices:
- Cooperation over competition — No rankings or sorting. Members appear in family order, not by performance
- “Reading King” not “MVP” — Warm, encouraging language instead of corporate/competitive terminology
- Growth metaphor — The family tree grows from a seed to a mighty tree, representing collective achievement
- Multi-dimensional assessment — The radar chart prevents single-metric obsession by measuring 4 aspects of reading health
- Emotional connection — Reading letters and highlight quotes create meaningful family bonds beyond just tracking numbers
Why I Built This
Reading alone is good. Reading together as a family — and making it a shared adventure — is transformative. This platform turned our scattered reading habits into a connected journey where everyone motivates each other, not through pressure, but through warmth and shared discovery.
